Apple starts battery replacement program for some 13-inch MacBook Pros

PSA: Apple Announces 13-inch MacBook Pro (non Touch Bar) Battery Replacement Program

The programme will be available for five years since the original release of the "non-Touch Bar 13-inch MacBook Pro".

The issue is limited to the non Touch Bar 13-inch MacBook Pro, and only those that were manufactured between October 2016 and October 2017.

The tech giant said on its website a "limited number" of 13-inch MacBook Pro laptops sold between October 2016 and October 2017 had been fitted with a faulty component that causes the battery to expand.

Apple has announced that the battery replacement program is free of cost and owns won't have to spend anything for batteries.

This marks the latest in a growing number of battery-related issues that have hit Apple products.

Users who believe their 13-inch MacBook Pro suffers from the described swelling issue can check eligibility by plugging in their device serial number on Apple's dedicated replacement webpage.

Your MacBook's serial number can be obtained by navigating to About This Mac from the Apple logo or on the back of the laptop.

Apple warns that the machine will be examined prior to any service to verify it is eligible for the program and in working order.

Apple says the program "does not affect 13-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar or older 13-inch MacBook Pro models". Apple further notes that the replacement program will not extend the standard warranty coverage of the affected MacBook Pro. And, you can get the replacement just by visiting any of the authorized service provider or any nearest retail store. "In some cases, there may be a cost associated with the fix".
