Trump's personal attorney has dropped a pair of libel suits

President Donald Trump's personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, has withdrawn defamation lawsuits against the company that created the Russian Federation dossier and the website that published it.

The moves follow the recent Federal Bureau of Investigation raids on Cohen's office, home and hotel room, which have put intense pressure and scrutiny on him, says Pegues, and Cohen has been mounting a legal fight to prevent prosecutors from accessing all of the material seized from him. This comes shortly after Cohen forcefully denied one of the dossier's main claims: that he took a trip to Prague in 2016 in order to meet with Russian agents.

According to Cohen's initial complaint, Fusion GPS, co-founded by former Wall Street Journal reporter Glenn Simpson, "recklessly placed [the dossier] beyond their control and allowed it to fall into the hands of media devoted to breaking news on the hottest subject of the day: the Trump candidacy".

Schwartz said Cohen still believes BuzzFeed and Fusion GPS defamed him "but given the events that have unfolded, and the time, attention, and resources needed to prosecute these matters, we have dismissed the matters, despite their merits".

Fusion GPS was the firm behind the dossier, and BuzzFeed published the document shortly before Trump's inauguration a year ago.

Quoting anonymous sources within the Department of Justice, McClatchy reported that Department of Justice special counsel Robert Mueller found evidence that Cohen entered the Czech Republic through a section of Germany where the borders are open.

Cohen, who has been described as a fixer for Trump, arranged a $130,000 payment to Daniels in October 2016, just before the election. "With his decision, it appears that Mr. Cohen can now focus on his many other legal travails".

Publishing the document 10 days before Trump's inauguration, BuzzFeed warned that numerous allegations it contained could not be independently verified.

However, the president and members of his administration have long denied these claims, repeating time and time again that there was "no collusion" between the two entities.

"You'll have to ask Michael Cohen", Trump said.

BuzzFeed said the lawsuit had never been about the "merits" of publishing the dossier. "Its interest to the public is, and always has been, obvious".

President Trump's personal attorney, leaves federal court in NY on Monday.

Cohen did not immediately return a request for comment.
