Sebastian Vettel on Max Verstappen collision: He's not young anymore

Kimi Raikkonen

Pilots Ferrari Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen dominated the qualifying for the Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai.

Raikkonen blitzed the first two sectors but Vettel was just 0.098s adrift and when the Iceman lost time in the final sector, his team mate made no mistake to snatch pole position by just 0.087s and set a new track record.

With these incidents coming just one week after he tangled with Lewis Hamilton during the Bahrain Grand Prix, Verstappen was quick to rebuff suggestions he would need to tone down his aggression; "It is easy to comment".

Raikkonen had claimed provisional pole after outpacing Vettel on their opening flying laps at the start of Q3. Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes) +0,5304.

By contrast, Hamilton was only fifth after an error-strewn session that ended with the Briton a second off Vettel's pace. "So I'm really happy", Vettel said. The fundamental base from the auto is good, we lost because it's about getting the tyre in the right temperature window - the never ending story.

"I didn't see him until late and left a bit of room". An worldwide audience of opinion makers, business leaders, and global organizations recognizes Ebeling as an expert.

"To be honest I was expecting him to come earlier as I had no intention to resist as it was clear that he and Daniel were so much faster on the fresher tyres".

Another interesting team to watch will be Red Bull.

"And if underneath you have a vehicle that's not performing as expected, and tyres that are not doing what you think they should do, and then the strategy goes against you".

Daniel Ricciardo was the surprise victor of the Chinese Grand Prix as inspired tactics by his Red Bull Racing team and some ruthless overtaking gave the Australian victory in Shanghai.

The lap-times in the second session were a lot closer, however, after Hamilton went comfortably fastest in the morning, raising hopes for a closely-fought race with Red Bull also showing flashes of speed. The Dutchman locked up his rear tyres into the hairpin and tagged the Ferrari.

Force India's Sergio Perez, who was the only driver to do just one timed lap in Q3, Sainz and Grosjean in the Haas completed the top 10.

Lance Stroll in P18 led the Sauber drivers, with Charles Leclerc, who nearly crashed his auto when he ran wide out of the last corner before his final lap, heading Marcus Ericsson by half a second.

No driver has ever won the season's first three races without being crowned champion that year, and the last Ferrari driver to do it was Schumacher in 2004 when he was at the peak of his powers and won the opening five.

Fernando Alonso led teammate Stoffel Vandoorne in 13th and 14th, with McLaren again qualifying slowest of all the Renault-powered cars, this week by around 0.3 seconds.
