Commonwealth Games: Two Indian athletes suspended after syringe found in room

Five athletes from the nation of Cameroon are considered missing as they failed to show up to their Commonwealth Games events

A third of Cameroon's athletes attending the Commonwealth Games in Australia have gone missing, the team said in a statement Wednesday.

After two Indian athletes were expelled and five indigenous protesters arrested, peerless South African Caster Semenya returned the spotlight to competition with a glorious gold at the Commonwealth Games.

Games officials are stumped over the whereabouts of the Cameroonian athletes, five who are boxers and three who are weightlifters. This breakfast will give me the opportunity to congratulate numerous New Zealand athletes participating in the Games.

Uganda has already won two gold medals through Joshua Cheptegei (5,000m) and Stella Chesang (10,000m) as well as Mercyline Chelangat who bagged a bronze medal in the 10,000m race. The first round of missing athletes were discovered on Sunday when three of the team "departed the village".

So too was evidence from the Australia Sports Anti-Doping Authority (ASADA) principal investigator, who discovered a syringe in the bag of Babu, which the athlete "admitted to be his property", the CGF said.

After the 2000 Sydney Olympics, more than 100 athletes overstayed, while during the London 2012 Olympics, seven athletes left the village.

"It's obviously disappointing that some of the athletes that have come, didn't compete", Grevemberg said.

Cameroon team manager Victor Agbor Nso on Wednesday confirmed weightlifter Olivier Matam and boxers Ndzie Tchoyi and Simplice Fotsala had been due to compete this week but could not be found.

Older sister Jen won two gold medals at the Delhi Games eight years ago while the girls' mum Shirley was a 50m prone gold medalist in 1994.

Australia's Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton warned that athletes would be forcibly removed from the country if they attempted to overstay their visas. "Australian Border Force officers will find these people (and) they'll be held in immigration detention until they can be deported".
