Another High-Ranking National Security Official Resigns

White House aide Tom Bossert pushed out by new national security adviser John Bolton

Jamil Jaffer, a former chief counsel to the Senator foreign relations panel and associate counsel to President Bush called Bossert's "ouster" a "huge mistake" especially at a time when tensions are high and the national security team is witnessing a big churning.

Schadlow is the third senior national security official to leave the administration this week following Bolton's arrival. She submitted her resignation on Tuesday, according to a copy of her resignation letter obtained by CNN, and a senior White House official said she will remain in her role until April 27 to assist with the transition. "We thank him for his continued service", said White House deputy press secretary Lindsay Walters. "We wish Nadia and her family the best", he said in a statement sent to various news outlets. The White House said Thursday that Waddell would soon step down from that post, although the exact date is not set. His departure was widely expected as Bolton works to build his own team. Right now, the NSC and HSC function as separate bodies, with their own meetings and policy issues, but share a staff. During the early years of the Obama administration, HSC and NSC merged, but later split. News of her exit came as newly installed National Security Adviser John Bolton looks to shake up his team.

Trump appointed John Bolton, a former USA ambassador to the United Nations, to replace McMaster.

The position of White House national security adviser does not require Senate confirmation.

Schadlow was promoted to deputy national security adviser for strategy in January following the departure of Dina Powell, a former NSC official and Goldman Sachs executive, and was a key author of the president's National Security Strategy document, which laid out Trump's national security goals and approach.
