Syria strikes appear closer with flight warnings and military movements

039;The United States will respond,' US ambassador Nikki Haley says

The global chemical weapons watchdog, the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, said on April 10 that it was sending a team of experts to the site of the Douma attack to gather evidence and determine whether it involved banned chemical weapons.

The Russian ministry of defence has previously said it will fire at any U.S. craft that strikes government areas of Damascus, where Russian officials are also based.

Alastair W.M. Hay, a professor of toxicology at Leeds University in England, told the Post the look of the bodies "is pretty much consistent with a nerve-agent-type exposure".

Trump had said Monday a response to the Syria attack would come within days.

Russian Federation also asked the council to vote on a second new draft resolution on Tuesday that would specifically support sending investigators from the global chemical weapons watchdog to the site of an alleged deadly attack last Saturday.

The Foreign Secretary said: "Hugely disappointing that Russian Federation vetoed the proposal at the United Nations for an independent investigation into Syrian chemical attacks".

The Russian military said on March 13 that it would respond to any United States strike on Syria by targeting any missiles and launchers involved.

Vladimir Shamanov, the chairman of the defense affairs committee in the State Duma, said in televised remarks that Russian Federation would consider "all political, diplomatic and military measures" against the U.S.in the event of a strike in Syria.

Saturday's suspected poison gas attack took place in a rebel-held town near Damascus amid a resumed offensive by Syrian government forces after the collapse of a truce.

"Military means will lead us nowhere".

The Syrian government and Russian Federation say the reports are bogus.

The US and Russian militaries have sought to avoid conflict in Syria, notably past year in the Euphrates River Valley where they supported rival sides in the campaign against Islamic State militants.

Mr Trump said the U.S. is still investigating the possible involvement of the Iranian and Russian governments.

CGTN's Mike Walter spoke with Daniel Serwer about what options are on the table in response to an alleged chemical attack in Syria.

Medical sources say dozens were killed in the alleged attack there, but exact numbers are impossible to verify.

A team of worldwide inspectors is expected to visit Syria to look into the alleged use of chemical weapons in eastern Ghouta, near Damascus.

The AFP news agency quoted French government spokesman Benjamin Griveaux as saying on Tuesday that "if a red line had been crossed, there will be a response", adding that intelligence shared by the French and United States leaders "in theory confirms the use of chemical weapons".

The threat is a response to a reported chemical weapons attack on the Syrian town of Douma, which was held by the rebel forces.
