'You don't replace Muhammad Ali' - Coe blasts Bolt 'obsession'

Jamaica’s Yohan Blake crosses the finish line in his men’s 100m semifinal

South Africa's Akani Simbine dealt with the egos as he upset one of the biggest drawcards of the Commonwealth Games to take a shock gold in the men's 100m.

Yohan Blake stormed into Monday's Commonwealth Games 100 metres final spurred by a message from Usain Bolt, who told his fellow Jamaican: "You've got to win".

Blake was forced into damage control as he clawed back the competition to cross the line for third behind South Africa's Akani Simbine (gold) and Henricho Bruinjies (silver).

New Zealand, which has reached the final every time netball has been played at the Commonwealth Games and has won two gold medals, was upset 57-53 by Malawi.

The bronze medal went to Jamaica's Yohan Blake in 10.19. I have done the work, and I am at a point where I can get it.

BACK IN CYCLE — Matthew Glaetzer won the kilo time trial, a day after the sprint world champion's tactical blunder led to a stunning early exit in his favorite race.

"It's my first worldwide title and for me it's a milestone, a stepping stone towards the world championships, and the Olympics and more competitions and more global competitions", said the 24-year-old.

Dane Bird-Smith set a games record 1:19.34 to win the men's race ahead of England's Tom Bosworth and Samuel Ireri Tathimba of Kenya.

"I was stumbling all the way and I didn't recover from it".

In the 100m semi-final at the Commonwealth Games, Williams found himself in the lane next to Blake after the Australian impressively won his heat.

"It is an incredible feeling to come here and do what I could have done, and I've won the gold medal which is something I knew I could do". "It was just never meant to be I guess".

"I believed in myself from the start of the race and I believed in what I could do and focusing on myself", Simbine said.

Trinidad and Tobago's Michelle-Lee Ahye triumphed in the women's race, her first gold medal at a major worldwide meet.

"I know what I can do and I just don't know what happened, it was just a bad race for me". That followed a 10.15 in his opening heat on the first afternoon of the track and field competition.

She started well and pressed home her advantage today to win in 11.14 before carrying on sprinting in celebration around the bend.

It was the first time in 20 years the 100m crown was not retained by a Caribbean nation.

Australia Celia Sullohern smashed her personal best to finish an impressive sixth in 31 minutes 50.75 seconds.

Tomas Walsh did not match his Games record 22.45m in qualifying but was nonetheless a comfortable victor in the men's shot put final.
