Woman accusing Bill Cosby of assault is a 'con artist', court told

Bill Cosby sexual assault retrial set to begin in Pennsylvania

Constand is the primary witness against Cosby, and her testimony will be central in the criminal case against him because prosecutors have nearly no other evidence.

The prosecution moved to admit Dr. Barbara Ziv, who is a professor in the Lewis Katz School of Medicine, as an expert on the behavior of victims of sexual assault and abuse, which Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas Judge Steven T. O'Neill and the defense accepted.

Constand, who is more than three decades younger than Cosby, didn't report the alleged assault until a year later.

This time, O'Neill is letting prosecutors have five additional accusers testify - including model Janice Dickinson - as they try to show that Cosby made a habit of drugging and violating women.

In a police press release seen by People, Rochelle was said to have been charged with disorderly conduct "after she entered a restricted area on the grounds of the Montgomery County Courthouse at 8:35 a.m., when the defendant, William H. Cosby Jr., was arriving for court".

Cosby has denied all accusations of non-consensual sex.

She didn't get far.

Now, Bill and Andrea are back in court after his first trial, where the settlement amount was never disclosed to jurors, ended in a hung jury and mistrial.

During the first trial, Wyatt often held forth outside the courthouse with inelegant commentary. "He's not a criminal and you will gladly declare him not guilty", Mesereau said. Prosecutors have suggested he gave her something stronger - perhaps quaaludes, a popular party drug in the 1970s that was banned in the U.S.in 1982.

The defense will deliver its opening statement this morning (April 10) in a trial that is expected to last a month.

Bill Cosby paid Andrea Constand almost $3.4 million to settle her 2005 lawsuit - a payment, a prosecutor said Monday, that was meant to buy her silence after the entertainer sexually assaulted her at his Cheltenham, Pa., home. She filed a lawsuit after another district attorney declined to prosecute Cosby.

He called Constand a con artist who took advantage of Cosby's grief and loneliness over his son's 1999 murder to gain his trust before framing him for sexual assault.

On Monday, during opening statements in Cosby's retrial on charges of sexually assaulting Constand, a state prosecutor formally wiped away that vow of secrecy, revealing for the first time that the entertainer paid his accuser $3,380,000 to end their dispute in 2006.

Steele said that proves that when Cosby befriended Constand and gave her career advice, he had an ulterior motive.

Andrea Constand, 44, had struggled with money for years, claimed Tom Mesereau - who helped acquit Michael Jackson of child molestation charges.

She said she flew to Reno, Nevada, to meet Cosby, who was then appearing at Harrah's casino. Constand met the comedian when she ran the women's basketball operations at Temple, where Cosby was an alumnus and trustee.

Mesereau has indicated he intends to use the settlement to argue that Constand falsely accused Cosby in hopes of landing a big payoff. The counselor, Marguerite "Margo" Jackson, says Constand told her that she could lie about being sexually assaulted by a celebrity to make money in a legal settlement.

"In one statement, Cosby said he developed a romantic interest in Constand 'probably the first time I saw her'". Rochelle later said she was acting on behalf of Femen, a European women's movement whose members paint messages on their topless bodies to protest the patriarchy, and to reclaim the bodies of women who have been disempowered through sexual assault.

For the retrial, Mesereau has permission to call Jackson to the stand, and she is considered a part of his overall strategy of attempting to undermine Constand's credibility.

"Even if he were able to discredit each individual woman, at a certain point, the jury is going to think, where there's smoke, there's fire", she said.

The former Cosby Show actress who was arrested for protesting topless at Bill Cosby's retrial on Monday wanted to make the disgraced comedian feel "uncomfortable".

"Things have changed", he told the AP.

He was surrounded by five sheriff's deputies as he walked inside Tuesday.
