Presidency: Buhari's candidature will be a liability to APC - Chekwas Okorie

President Muhammadu Buhari

Some Nigerians based in the United Kingdom have protested against President Muhammadu Buhari in London Yesterday.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has explained why Nigerians should re-elect President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019.

The President made this known when he declared his reelection bid on the 9th April 2018 during his Party's (APC) National Executive Council meeting in Abuja. He has that right for re-election.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, in an open letter earlier this year, called on President Buhari not to seek re-election because of his age and alleged poor health.

"We are disappointed with the mode of public communication chosen by our President to inform Nigerians of such a very strategic decision. Same for governors and open ended for legislators", he said.

Nigerians on social media have reacted to the news.

"The other one about doing one term was when he was running in 2011. But did he win in that year, no".

However, Okorie while reacting to Buhari's disclosure of intention to run for second term told Sun Newspaper: "We want to sympathise with the APC because they now have to grapple with the liability of having to present President Buhari to voters".

President Buhari is presiding over the worst security meltdown in our history and no part of the country is spared this inglorious situation.

"We are happy and hoping that President Buhari should return to embark on infrastructural development since he has already retrieved a lot from looters", he was quoted to have said.

He said: "The President is a very responsible man". He needs to have time to reflect, refurbish physically and recoup and after appropriate rest, once again, join the stock of Nigerian leaders whose experience, influence, wisdom and outreach can be deployed on the sideline for the good of the country.
