Iran's Rouhani says USA 'will regret it' if it violates nuclear deal

Strike on Syria air base kills 14, including Iranian forces: monitor

Iranians are clearly on edge with many speculating on a possible United States withdrawal from the 2015 multilateral nuclear deal which was supposed to free Iran's economy from crippling sanctions, although in reality only the European Union, Russia and China removed financial restrictions.

On Monday, Iran unveiled "84 achievements" in the field of nuclear technology including "a nuclear battery and centrifuges for the oil industry, nuclear fission, nuclear medicine and power plants".

U.S. President Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened to pull the U.S. out of the deal and re-impose economic sanctions on Iran.

The Iranian President made the remarks on Monday while receiving the Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Vyacheslav Volodin, in Tehran. "But we will not use our weapons against our neighbours", Rouhani said.

"It seems the US government is looking for an excuse for military intervention", Iran's foreign minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, said has he arrived in Brazil early on Tuesday, according to state media.

While Trump approved the sanctions waiver, the Treasury Department announced new, targeted sanctions against 14 entities and people, including the head of Iran's judiciary, Sadeq Larijani, a close ally of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei.

However, Salehi is quoted as saying that is not acceptable that one side takes all the responsibility for implementing the deal and the other side refrains from fulfilling its legal commitments.

The Islamic Republic has completed 130 important projects in nuclear sector in past two years, the Iranian president said, adding that Tehran is cooperating with Russia, China and certain European countries in several projects. Rouhani underlined that Iran will never seek anyone's permission for nuclear research, but it is ready for constructive cooperation.

Azari-Jahromi said the attack mainly affected Europe, India and the United States, state television reported.

Republican Senator Bob Corker said "significant progress" had been made on bipartisan congressional legislation to "address the flaws in the agreement without violating US commitments". Work already has begun on this front, the official said.
