Arizona deploys 338 National Guardsmen to Trump's border mission

Ducey did not dispute that apprehensions along the Arizona-Mexico border are nonetheless as low as they've been in decades.

Arizona has boosted the number of National Guard troops it will send to the Mexico border to 338 from 225.

Texas announced the deployment of 150 Guardsmen to support Trump's new border-security mission on Friday night.

Brown has repeatedly fought with Trump over immigration protection.

He also said he doesn't think the border is a partisan issue.

Joel Villarreal, the mayor of Rio Grande City in Texas, said he did not agree with what he characterized as "the militarization of the border".

Doug Ducey, a Republican, was present to send 225 troops on Monday.

Mr Trump and administration officials have said that rising numbers of people being caught at the southern border, while in line with seasonal trends in recent years, require an immediate response.

"We had a 200-percent increase in traffic across the border", said Ducey. Under the federal laws Trump invoked in his proclamation calling for Nationwide Guard troops, governors who ship troops retain command and administration over their state's Guard members and the US authorities picks up the value.

California has not decided whether or not to send its National Guard troops to support border control.

Greg Abbott said he would add about 300 troops a week to the 250 members of the National Guard whose deployment was announced Friday until the total number reaches at least 1,000 troops.

Those soldiers will be the first of an anticipated 250 from New Mexico serving in the border operation.

The National Guard troops are expected to help Border Patrol lower the number of people and contraband entering the USA through the southern border.

South Carolina Adjutant General Robert Livingston says details including how many troops the state will send, their duties and how long they will stay will have to be worked out.

The head of the U.S. Border Patrol sector that includes part of West Texas and all of New Mexico said Monday he met with leaders of the New Mexico National Guard to begin discussions about what will be required and their capabilities.

"Your support will free up the border agents to serve on the border allowing us to put more boots on the ground", Ducey said. Evan Westrup, a spokesman for Brown, suggested the Related Press Monday that state officers are nonetheless reviewing Trump's troop request. "The Guard will provide air support, reconnaissance support, operational support, construction of border infrastructure and logistical support". But the ministry said it will be watching to make sure the border does not become more militarized than it already is.

The Republican Ducey in a tweet Monday said more of the state's Guard members will be deployed on Tuesday.
