Kenya and Fiji met in the Vancouver sevens final in the last leg.Kenya beat New Zealand in the semi final while Fiji edged out South Africa.

After being hammered 50-7 by Fiji in their final pool game on Saturday, New Zealand looked a completely different outfit against the US. Local media reported four people had been killed, while thousands of homes were flooded.

Kenya Sevens have beaten New Zealand to cruise to the final of Hong Kong Sevens where they will face Fiji in title decider.

"We have talked about all of it week - what we may do to carry the concerns and stresses persons are having of their lives - and I believed the gamers did admirably this weekend".

The most successful team in the tournament's history, Fiji matched England's record title run from 2002-06; it's also the team's sixth title in seven years and 16th overall.

Two yellow cards in the first half for Kenya's Collins Injera and Willy Ambaka allowed the Pacific islanders to take a 17-0 lead at half-time.

"We were clinical and accurate in what we did", said Fiji coach Gareth Baber.

"Hong Kong is always special for us", captain Jerry Tuwai said.

South Africa claimed the bronze medal after beating New Zealand 29-7 while Argentina beat United States of America 14-12 to secure fifth.

Such is the importance of the event to Fijians that they opted to send a full-strength squad to town, even though the Commonwealth Games rugby sevens tournament - one they have never won - is next weekend.

Victory for Fiji, on the other hand, saw them creeping to within three points behind series leaders South Africa.

Earlier in the day there was another historic moment, this time for Japan, who earned a place in next season's World Rugby Sevens Series courtesy of a 19-14 win over Germany in the men's qualification tournament.
