Those exclusive Snapchat Lenses for iPhone X users have arrived

SnapChat is Releasing Special AR Lenses for iPhone X Users

I would guess this means that Snap can't store information about the expressions you make with these lenses or use them to target you with ads, although I can imagine companies will want to take advantage of the technology to brand these lenses eventually. In this case, the filters are for your face.

The new face layers are a carnival mask, a Day of the Dead-like option and a shimmery gold thing that's rather gold, shimmery and resides on your face.

With so much about data privacy issues going on these days, not to mention Facebook's Cambridge Analytica scandal, it is only fair to ask how much of TrueDepth camera data does Apple share with third-party apps like Snapchat. For those who may have forgotten, these lenses were the ones that were demoed during the iPhone X keynote back in September 2017.

Snapchat is one of the first major apps to integrate TrueDepth facial data since iPhone X launched in November. Snapchat's photos and videos of the new lenses suggest that they will tightly stick to your face.

And you definitely shouldn't spend $1,000 on an iPhone X just to get these special Snapchat lenses.

To find the new iPhone X face filters, launch Snapchat and select the front camera. And that is enough to create some fun & interesting AR lenses! Apple's TrueDepth camera technology is the same technology that powers Apple's Animojis and Face ID. This aids Snapchat Lenses to highlight the photographer and the mask with better clarity.

It is wise to note that developers (like Snapchat) will only get visual facial mapping data and not the Face ID data that is used to authenticate or unlock your iPhone X. It's using this facial data that they are able to accurately animate both Animoji and these new Snapchat Lenses.

At the same time, Apple announced in January 2018 about taking all preventive steps to envelop the customer identity, along with sharing the facial mapping data to the app developers.
