Future iPhones to boast touch-less gesture controls and curved screens?

Apple Working on Touchless Control and Curved iPhone Screen

Apple appears to be exploring touchless gesture control and curved screens, according to latest rumors from Bloomberg.

The company's logo is seen outside Austria's first Apple store, which opens on February 24, during a media preview in Vienna, Austria, February 22, 2018.

Apple did not immediately respond to PCMag's request for comment.

Secondly, Apple is also working on an iPhone display that curves inwards gradually from top to bottom. The Korean tech giant has also had success creating curved screens for its flagship phones. To stay ahead, Apple needs compelling new features and designs.

There is no confirmation from Apple regarding the anticipated refresh of the iPad Pro model in 2018, moreso the expected new features following the hardware update. Reports now suggest Apple is developing a model with a curved screen design.

Samsung launched a feature called Air Gestures several years ago that lets users accept calls and flip through web pages by waving their hand across the top of the phone.

Google's Project Soli also boasts similar tech, this time integrating a sensor and antenna into a micro-chip that uses radar to detect touchless motions.

While Apple hasn't introduced touchless gestures in the past, companies like Samsung and Motorola have.

The features could help Apple differentiate itself in a crowded market where phones generally look the same.

While the Apple projects aren't imminent, the company has near-term plans to expand OLED technology to more devices, according to other people familiar with the matter. The upcoming OLED iPhone is said to have a larger 6.5-inch display than the 5.8-inch iPhone X.

Touchless gesture control would allow end users to hover their finger over the display and still be able to interact with onscreen options.
