Bodies of 38 Indians killed in Iraq arrive in India

India to receive bodies of 39 workers killed by IS in Iraq

The union minister of state also explained about how they located the mound from where the mortal remains were taken out in Iraq.

A special aircraft carrying the bodies of 38 construction workers killed by the dreaded Daesh (IS) terrorists in June 2014 in Mosul, Iraq, has arrived in Amritsar Monday afternoon. The DNA of one identified as Raju Yadav could not be fully matched. "The bodies will be brought out from a different exit passage", the DC added.

Ambassador Pradeep Singh Rajpurohit said the bodies had been taken to Baghdad's global airport and would arrive in India on Monday on a military flight.

Masih had claimed that all the kidnapped Indians were killed. Of the 39 Indians killed, 27 belonged to Punjab.

Earlier on Sunday, Iraq handed over the bodies to the Indian authorities in Baghdad. Minister of State (MoS) External Affairs VK Singh landed in Amritsar to hand over the remains to their families.

She said it was the primary duty of the Indian ambassador in the country to immediately inform the government in India after news broke out that the situation had worsened in Iraq.

He said the workers had found work in Iraq through illegal agents, and this compounded the problem for the Indian government to carry out a search for them. US-based companies continue to work in Iraq despite the danger. Announcements were made on TV and radio for all Indians. "They will not have to come to the airport", General Singh had said.

Bartella, largely inhibited by Christians, was emptied from inhabitants when the IS group seized the town in August 2014.

When asked about whether it was the centre or the state government responsible to compensate the families, he said, "It is India's responsibility". He also announced individual payments of 500,000 rupees ($7,675) as compensation for the next of their kin. Both state and central govts are sensitive. The Indian government maintained that they were alive and safe, assuring that search operations were underway.
