Laura Ingraham, Fox News host, apologizes to Parkland teen after advertisers flee

Laura Ingraham Apologizes As Advertisers Bail Over Mockery Of Parkland Survivor

Hogg issued a call for Ingraham's advertisers to boycott her show, and several agreed, including such high-profile "Ingraham Angle" sponsors as TripAdvisor, Nutrish, Wayfair, JoS.

She apologized via tweet on Thursday "in the spirit of Holy Week", adding that she was the first to have Hogg on her show after the Parkland massacre and that he is welcome back. TripAdvisor, Rachael Ray's pet food brand Nutrish, Wayfair, Hulu and Nestle have all announced plans to end advertising on Ingraham's show, as did Johnson & Johnson, which was not on Hogg's list.

Camerota then read Ingraham's apology on-air, and asked Hogg whether or not he accepted it. Hogg still stands by what he told the New York Times on Thursday, however.

At least eight companies have told ABC News they intend to pull their sponsorship of Ingraham's evening show. "It's time to love thy neighbor, not mudsling at children".

This all began when Ingraham mocked Hogg for a video that appeared on TMZ in which he stated the colleges he was not admitted to for next year.

'I think it's great that corporate America is standing with me and the rest of my friends, ' said Hogg during an appearance on New Day.

On February 14, a mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida killed 17 students and teachers and wounded 17.

Pressure from Hogg's 600,000 Twitter followers undoubtedly helped the companies come to their respective decisions.

Similarly, Hulu wrote on Twitter that "we'd like to confirm that we are no longer advertising on Laura Ingraham's show and we are monitoring all of our ad placements carefully".

"From hateful remarks about marriage equality and the transgender community to attacking youth activists and the communities we lock arms with, advertisers must question if they want to be associated with her fringe opinions". Fox dropped O'Reilly from the network soon after, though it's unclear how much the loss of advertisers contributed to the network's decision. After Sean Hannity supported Alabama judge Roy Moore in his campaign for the U.S. Senate, five companies removed their ads, including Keurig.

Sean Hannity is, of course, still on Fox, and as The Washington Post notes, successful boycotts are hard to pull off. The former reality TV star would regularly call into Fox News shows to express his political opinions on the news topic of the day, despite not having any professional experience in politics.
