Sea Of Thieves Game Pass Error Renders It Unplayable For Subscribers

Sea of Thieves

Recently we heard about Rare implementing a "Death Cost" mechanic to their newly released game but after the highly controversial community feedback the idea has been deemed dead in the water.

In a new developer update video, executive producer Joe Neate explained why the patch is so big. But in a forum post late last week, Rare announced a coming "death cost" feature would add a "small gold fee" to be deducted every time your character dies, upping the stakes and presumably providing additional motivation to avoiding those unplanned deaths.

However, after player outcry, Rare has reversed the decision and will not bring the death tax into the game.

After a lot of negative feedback on the death tax Rare chose to not implement it after all, as announced in a post on their official site. "Rates are dependant on the cause of death, so the more avoidable the death, the less patience the Captain will have when we enable this feature!"

The feedback was immediately and nearly overwhelmingly negative. Gold was going to be subtracted from you depending on how you died, with clumsier, more accidental deaths costing you the most. "Personally I have fun randomly blowing up my teammates with gunpowder barrels".

Other fans argued against the addition for similar reasons. This can cause some people to be little bit reckless in how they play the game, attacking anyone they come across instead of playing the game in a more reserved manner. "I like doing crazy jump or insane plans and wouldn't not want to do them for fear of having my gold slowly trickling away".
