Rabada cleared to play against Aussies

Kagiso Rabada has won his appeal against suspension and is free to play against Australia in the third test starting

Smith found it "pretty interesting" he had zero input at the six-hour hearing into Rabada's send-off, during which team manager Mohammed Moosajee was among a handful of South African witnesses.

The key matter in the Rabada verdict was whether the contact was "inappropriate and deliberate", and Smith admitted it is "not my place to make that judgment".

"I certainly think he (Rabada) bumped me a little bit harder than it actually looked on the footage", Smith told the cricket.com.au website.

But Rabada has not got away scot free‚ as Heron explained: "I consider the conduct was inappropriate‚ lacked respect for his fellow player and involved non-deliberate and minor contact".

The first incident saw the 22-year-old make shoulder-to-shoulder contact with Australia skipper Steve Smith, while the second was for his celebration after dismissing opening batsman and vice-captain David Warner.

'There's been so much noise and people have forgotten there's a great Test series going on between two extremely strong and competitive teams.

This means Rabada's demerit points total dips below the threshold bringing an automatic ban, allowing him to play at Newlands. And when you're playing against the best team in the world‚ sometimes that comes out of you.

"When you've got someone out you've already won the battle; there's no need to go over the top".

Smith last month floated the idea of trying to provoke Rabada and it wouldn't surprise if that transpires at Newlands later this week. The ICC has made their decision and we respect them.

Lashing out at the ICC's decision, Smith said there was now a danger that that physical contact between players could become open slather. "He is a world-class bowler, for us it is about negating the impact he has had in the first two games", Smith said.

The four-match series is now leveled at 1-1 after South Africa won the second Test by six wickets over Australia at the St George's Park, Port Elizabeth. Not once but twice in World Cup finals, he had let the game slip into a farce.

"In all the stuff that he did there was no aggressive intent, other than celebrating a wicket, but we've made him aware of the batsman's space and where his space needs to be". I don't think that is on.

Australia opener Cameron Bancroft suggested on Monday that Australia are preparing to face Rabada in Cape Town, while Nathan Lyon suggested the tourists "don't really care what the end result is". "I d be feeling a bit annoyed if I was him, to be perfectly honest". I think he's going to chat to Faf, AB (de Villiers) and Hashim (Amla) as well, just to ensure that the series is continued to play in pretty good spirit. "At the same time we will always support our players in situations like these‚ where we believe the code of conduct has been unfairly enforced upon us".
