Kejriwal should have apologised to Punjab people: Jakhar

Bhagwant Mann resigns after Kejriwal apologises to Majithia

While there was no consensus on AAP Punjab wing breaking away from the central leadership in protest against the apology by party supremo Arvind Kejriwal, the state unit did decide to dissolve the one-day-old core committee.

"A vast majority of the leaders was of the view that why a separate unit of Punjab AAP should not be formed which will have alliance with Lok Insaf Party and also forge alliance with like-minded parties and can even go to the extent of having former Punjab unit convenor Sucha Singh Chhotepur on board.", AAP MLA and leader of opposition in Punjab Assembly Sukhpal Singh Khaira had said. Calling off the alliance, the Lok Insaf Party said Kejriwal was a "traitor" and "fraudster" who had "betrayed" Punjabis by issuing the apology, PTI reported.

AAP MLAs were also of the opinion that Kejriwal should not have tendered an apology when he himself led the charge against Majithia on drug issue during the 2017 Punjab Assembly polls. When contacted, Sirsa refused to comment on his role in the talks.

Sandoa said, "I met Kejriwal today".

Hindustan Times has also learnt that SAD leaders managed to convince their AAP counterparts that conviction in this case was certain.

"I hereby withdrew all my statements and allegations made against you and apologise for the same", he added and reportedly furnished a copy of the apology to the court. The members said they were very angry with this apology. Singh, along with his party colleagues Arvind Kejriwal and Ashish Khetan, was an accused in a defamation case Majithia had filed. All the three secured bail and offered to face trial, stating they stood by the allegations made by them.

On Thursday, Kejriwal had apologised to Majithia, saying his allegations that the Shiromani Akali Dal leader was involved in the drug trade in Punjab were "unfounded". "The case was at the post-charges evidence stage as the charges were already framed". The defamation case against him will continue, Majithia's lawyer told The Indian Express. Singh is facing a similar case in a Ludhiana court too.
