Armenia drops eight notches in World Happiness Report

Finland has been revealed as the world's happiest country

A new focus in this year's report is on migration within and between countries.

Ireland has had a 4.1 year increase in its health-adjusted life expectancy since 2000. "These results are in line with the relatively high life evaluations but the relatively low emotional well-being of Israel's native population".

In a list of 156 countries, the country has further fallen to 133rd place in the World Happiness report monitored by the United Nations' Sustainable Development Solutions Network.

Finland again topped this list, followed by Denmark, Norway, and Iceland. In reaching number one, Finland nudged neighbouring Norway into second place.

Indians, it appears, are getting unhappier by the year, while their not-so-well-off neighbours in Pakistan are becoming more joyful, shows the latest United Nations ranking of the world's happiest countries. The analysis of happiness shows Togo as the biggest gainer, moving up 17 places in the overall rankings.

According to Visit Finland, the country's official travel guide, it boasts a great food scene, a coffee culture, unpolluted air, and more forests and lakes than anywhere else in Europe.

It reflects a new worldwide demand for more attention to happiness as criteria for government policy.

NBC News reported Happiness Research Institute CEO Meik Wiking as saying that the happiness revealed in the survey derives from healthy amounts of social security and personal freedom that outweigh residents having to pay "some of the highest taxes in the world".

"The most striking finding of the report is the remarkable consistency between the happiness of immigrants and the locally born", said co-editor Professor John Helliwell of the University of British Columbia.

Pakistan ranks 75th out of 156 countries in the 2018 World Happiness Report issued on Wednesday. The landlocked country's history is rife with civil war, coup attempts and ethnic cleansing.

The rankings were based on annual surveys from 2015 to a year ago of 1,000 people in each nation who were asked to rate their lives on a scale of zero for the worst possible life to 10 for the best possible life, the report's Web site said.

Finland has captured the title of world's happiest country for 2018, along with world's happiest immigrant population.
