Russian Exile Found Dead In His Home In London

Glushkov was a close associate of Boris Berezovsky, who fell out with Vladmir Putin and fled Russia and was himself later found dead at his home in Berkshire

He, however, lost Putin's favor and fled to London, where he often criticized the Russian government.

The man found on Monday is believed to be Russian businessman Nikolai Glushkov.

A former senior Russian executive linked to late Kremlin opponent Boris Berezovsky has been found dead in London in unexplained circumstances, British and Russian media reported yesterday. An inquest failed to establish if he had committed suicide or died from foul play.

There was no evidence linking the death to the incidents in Salisbury, it said.

Glushkov, who has been an executive at state airline Aeroflot and also worked for Berezovsky's vehicle company LogoVAZ, followed and was granted asylum in 2010. He was imprisoned for money laundering and fraud and served five years.

According to the Russian Embassy in London, the United Kingdom refused to extradite Glushkov back in February 2016 on charges of large-scale fraud and embezzlement during his time as the deputy director of the Russian airline Aeroflot.

Billionaire and business oligarch Berezovsky later ran afoul of the Kremlin when he publicly denounced Putin and brought a lawsuit against his ally, fellow billionaire Roman Abramovich. Then, in March 2017, Glushkov was handed a second eight-year sentence in absentia and a one million Russian Rouble fine for allegedly defrauding Aeroflot of $122 million during his tenure as finance director there in the late 1990s.

Glushkov was due to appear at a United Kingdom court in a case where Aeroflot claimed he stole $123 million from them.

"I don't think I've seen him in the last week or so, I hadn't noticed him, but I don't know what's happened - the police said they are still searching and there are lots of police cars".

In 2013, he was found dead at his home.

Wilson said Russian Federation has "failed for many years to declare chemical weapons development programs which date from the 1970s" and that London has demanded that Moscow now "come clean".

Wilson also refuted a claim by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov that Britain would be breaching the treaty that outlaws chemical weapons if it refuses to share with Moscow samples of the nerve agent.

He told reporters on Tuesday that London wants "Russia to declare these programs now".
