Dolphins plan to move on from Ndamukong Suh, Lawrence Timmons

According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, the team will likely release defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh before the start of the new league year on Wednesday.

Suh carried a salary-cap number of $26.1 million for the 2018 season, including a base salary of $16.985 million. Last year, the Eagles acquired running back Jay Ajayi at the trade deadline. The 31-year-old has played well for Miami and not missed a game in three years, but head coach Adam Gase feels moving on from Suh is necessary.

After signing a huge six-year, $114.4 million deal in 2015, Suh has failed to live up to the play that earned him the mega-contract, making just one Pro Bowl in three seasons in Miami.

But after agreeing to acquire Robert Quinn and his $11.4 million cap hit via a trade with the Los Angeles Rams, the Dolphins' have an untenable chunk of their salary cap - almost $52 million (!) - along their defensive line. The Dolphins made the playoffs just once with Suh on their roster, and the defensive tackle posted declining sack totals of 6, 5 and 4.5.

He has never won a playoff game, and with him previous year, Miami finished 29th in run defense and 26th in sacks.

We don't know for sure that Suh is in town to meet with the Seahawks, but obviously the timing here makes one think that could be the case.

Suh should have plenty of interest on the open market, especially because it won't take a QB-esque contract to bring aboard the enigmatic interior disruptor who's still unblockable when he wants to be.

They will release perhaps the face of the team and its best player, but that is the cost of trying to abruptly change the culture.
