Trump Denies Hiring Bill Clinton Impeachment Lawyer

Trump called Haberman - the newspaper's top White House correspondent and who has covered Trump since his time in NY - a "Hillary flunky, (who) knows nothing about me and is not given access".

Flood now works with law firm Williams & Connolly, and represented Bill Clinton during the Democrat's impeachment proceedings in 1998 amid the Monica Lewinsky scandal.

As Robert Mueller's Trump-Russia investigation expands and accelerates, the president is reportedly looking to shake up his legal staff.

On Sunday morning, Trump took to Twitter to slam Maggie Haberman's story on The New York Times titled, "Trump Talks With Clinton Impeachment Lawyer About Aiding in Mueller Response".

Emmet T. Flood, who represented President Bill Clinton during his impeachment hearings in the late 1990s, met with Trump in the Oval Office last week to discuss the possibility of representing him, the Times first reported Saturday.

"I am VERY happy with my lawyers". Mr. Trump's personal lawyers have been handling negotiations with Mr. Mueller over the terms of a presidential interview.

On Sunday, the president tweeted that his lawyers had shown there was no collusion with Russian Federation, and that the "only Collusion was that done by the DNC, the Democrats and Crooked Hillary", as he calls Hillary Clinton, his opponent in the 2016 presidential race.

Flood has reportedly turned down a previous offer to join the president's legal team - but has always been on a list of lawyers the White House wants to recruit.

In private conversations, Mr. Trump has seesawed between expressing confidence in Mr. Cobb's claim that the inquiry will wrap up in relatively short order and that he will be exonerated, and sounding frustrated with his team's legal strategy. He also served in the White House Counsel's Office under President George W. Bush and has represented former Vice President Dick Cheney. It is unclear how Flood's responsibilities might differ from Cobb's. Cobb has also reportedly told friends he does not expect to remain in his job much longer, and some advisers have suggested Trump invite his longtime NY lawyer, Marc E. Kasowitz, to take the lead again.

Flood's law firm, Williams and Connolly, represents Hillary Clinton, including in the email scandal, one possible reason that sources told Reuters previous year the firm turned down representing Trump as outside counsel.

Neither the White House nor Flood returned a request for comment.
