Elizabeth Warren Is Asked About Being Called 'Pocahontas' By Trump

Warren was asked on CNN to respond to Trump's'Pocahontas attack

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., is rejecting a MA newspaper's suggestion that she take a DNA test to prove her Native American heritage.

Warren responded with the story she said she had been told by family members about her parents - that her father's family didn't want him to marry her mother because she was part Native American.

Last week, an editorial in the Berkshire Eagle called on the senior senator from MA to take a DNA test to finally put the issue to rest, stating she has "nothing to lose but her Achilles' heel". "We need a comprehensive rethinking of our trade policy". "Never got any benefit from it anywhere", she added.

Todd pointed out that many presidential candidates in the past said they were not running two years before an election. But Democrats have struck a more measured tone, as many members of the party's progressive wing have always been critical of free trade agreements they believe harm US workers.

She said that on CNN on Sunday, a day after President Donald Trump taunted the idea of her running at a Pennsylvania campaign rally and referred to her as "Pocahontas". She is already running for re-election to the Senate in 2018. And I'm going to do that right now, by pointing out that more than half of all native women in this country have been the victims of sexual violence, ' Warren said, pivoting to the issue after restating what she has said previously about her family story.

Warren also said that she respects the distinction between heritage and citizenship and "that tribal membership is determined by tribes - and only by tribes".

Warren, who is seeking a second Senate term this year, has been accused of saying she is of Native American heritage to help in securing jobs, including one as a Harvard law professor.

"Look, I do know. I never used it to advance my career", she reportedly told the organization. And the American government is doing nothing about this, ' she said.

She said her parents survived the Great Depression and other hardships as they raised her and her three brothers. In an age of hypersensitivity to claims of cultural appropriation, it's odd that she thinks her family lore ought to be enough to put this to rest. Warren could deliver the rebuke of all rebukes to Trump by posting her DNA test results to back up her claims.
