Charlie Nicholas surprised by Scott McTominay's decision to choose Scotland

Zlatan Ibrahmovic has been linked with a move to LA

I've been to a few training camps with Scotland.

McLeish is expected to announce his squad on Wednesday with McTominay's decision softening the blow of Scott Brown's worldwide retirement. I'm probably more Scottish than I am English but it doesn't bother me really.

Scotland certainly have a talented player on their hands as well and would do well to build around him and other young Scottish stars in their bid to qualify for the next World Cup.

Hearts manager and director of football Levein, who managed Scotland between 2009 to 2012, hopes to see more young, eligible players commit their futures to Scotland in an "exciting" time for the national side, who face Costa Rica and Hungary in friendlies later this month. "It's a bit of both - I want them both to do well".

The promising 21-year-old has broken into the Red Devils first team in recent weeks and has made 15 appearances so far this season.

McTominay is understood to have opted to represent Scotland instead of England after discussions last week with both Alex McLeish and Gareth Southgate.

"He realises the weight of playing for England and working every summer - he doesn't want that".

McFadden, who has held talks over joining McLeish's coaching team, told BBC Radio Scotland: "His stature, how he goes about his game, he reminds me of Darren Fletcher, and if we can get someone who has been as good for Scotland as Darren Fletcher it's a great acquisition". "I can't confirm because I have no information about that and my advice to him is not about national teams, is not about that".

"And the kid is very feet on the ground, he's very calm, so I think he passed some important tests, not by the football point of view but the mental point of view".

"He'll know that, he'll adapt, and I think the biggest thing is not to put too much pressure on it. Let him find his way, ease his way into it and get that team ethos coming across".
