During the 90th Academy Awards telecast, Netflix released the first trailer for the last season of House of Cards. The trailer shows a bustling White House, leading to the Oval Office. Spacey, who played the scheming politician Frank Underwood during the first five seasons, was forced off the show late previous year amid a cascade of sexual harassment allegations.

Clad in a sharp blue pantsuit, sporting a short bob, Claire swivels in the chair, stands up, plants her hands on the resolute desk and says, "We are just getting started".

Producer Media Rights Capital announced that it would resume work on the final season in early 2018, after the season was reworked to revolve around Wright's Claire.
