Alcatel launches five smartphones and two Android Oreo tablets at MWC 2018

Alcatel Revamps Its Smartphones with Supersized Screens

There is dual SIM support (nano), a rear mounted fingerprint scanner, NFC (select model), USB 2.0 Type-C port, and a 3000mAh battery. While Alcatel is known for offering low-priced smartphones in the Western markets, the company also launched a few devices in the Indian market.

When Alcatel first announced its 5, 3v and 1x series of smartphones at CES 2018, the company left out vital information related to each series of device's specific technical specifications.

The model with 2 GB of RAM features Face Key, a camera-based facial recognition feature. Powering the device is a quad core MediaTek MT6738 SoC.

It has a 5.7-inch screen displaying at a resolution of 720 x 1440, with an 18:9 aspect ratio. The 3X ships with a 5.7-inch display, MT6739 processor, 2GB/3GB RAM, 16GB/32GB expandable internal storage loaded with Android Nougat.

The Alcatel 3V is the highlight of this series, offering a 6-inch 1080p display with dual-cameras on the back, led by a 12MP sensor.

The next series is the Alcatel 3 Series which includes the Alcatel 3, 3X, and 3V. One of them is the world's first smartphone to run on Android Oreo Go Edition.

The larger tablet is also offered with an optional Bluetooth keyboard and cover, to make it useful as a PC replacement for basic tasks - that's pretty much where the similarities end with the iPad Pro, as the 1.3GHz quad core chipset and 1GB of RAM are going to creak under pressure. Finally, RAM amounts to 2GB, says Alcatel. The Alcatel 3X will be available starting April at a price of 179.99 euros (approximately Rs 14,300) in color choices of Metallic Black, Blue, and Gold. It also includes Google Assistant for Android Go. The 3, 3X, and 3V cost €150, €180, and €190, respectively - around $185, $222, and $234.

Theres also an Alcatel 1C that picks up a metal finish and only ships with 3G radios. It runs Android Oreo out-of-the-box. Other features include a 3,000mAh battery, fingerprint reader, and Android Oreo. It's got cameras, but they're probably not worth a ton since they weigh in at 8MP on the rear and 5MP on the front. It's the first known phone to sport Android 8.1 Oreo (Go edition) which is optimized for low-powered hardware. Ouch. At least the price is certainly cheap checking in at €100 for a single-SIM variant and €110 for a dual-SIM variant. Under the hood, MediaTek MT8735A quad-core SoC paired with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, which is expandable up to 128GB via microSD card.

The main difference between the tablets is their displays: the 7 has a 7-inch 1024 x 600 display, and the 10 has a 10-inch 1280 x 800 display. A powerful 2460mAh battery supplies the required power.
