Rams Agrees To Trade With Chiefs For Marcus Peters

Chiefs tried to trade for Rams Robert Quinn

Chiefs are expected to trade CB Marcus Peters to the Los Angeles Rams, sources tell ESPN.

Details of the trade have not been reported.

The Chiefs trading Peters to the Rams may have just been the extra push the Browns need to land a potential difference-maker in the secondary.

The Cleveland Browns and San Francisco 49ers were also interested in Peters. "That is what the Chiefs did for a package a picks not believed to be a first rounder".

Peters drew a penalty after throwing an official's flag into the stands and walking off the field following a disagreement with a call late in the game against the Jets on December 3.

That game wrapped up a four-game losing streak for the Chiefs.

He also drew criticism this past year for not standing for the national anthem.

Peters was voted to the Pro Bowl after the 2015 and 2016 seasons, won the 2015 Defensive Rookie of the Year Award and was an Associated Press first-team All-Pro selection in 2016. Per Pro Football Focus (subscription), Peters graded out as their 17th best cornerback (tied) with a +85.7 grade overall this past season. Now, it appears he has been traded.

Peters is the first player since Ed Reed (from 2002 to 2004) with five interceptions in each of his first three seasons, even though opposing quarterbacks have continually shied away from him. It's the second major trade involving the Chiefs that will occur that day following the deal that will send quarterback Alex Smith to the Washington Redskins.

The Chiefs also signed former Oakland Raiders cornerback David Amerson.

Look at it this way: In 2017, the Chiefs' top corners were Peters (elite), Mitchell (tons of questions) and Nelson (solid). The trade can not be officially processed until March 14.
