Karnataka: Congress MLA's son sent to two-day police custody for assault

Karnataka: Congress expels party MLA's son who thrashed a Bengaluru youth in restaurant

On a complaint by victim Vidvat's friend V. Praveen, police registered an assault case against Nalapad and five of his friends for thrashing the 24-year-old in Fergy Cafe at the upscale UB City Mall following a verbal duel on Saturday night. Whoever does wrong is wrong, be it a son of an MLA or anyone else. Hadagali returned to the force within a week with a plump posting at Ashok Nagar police station with the alleged blessing of Haris.

"Such ignorance about political violence protocol clearly shows that he is an immature boy and therefore, I appeal to the authorities to show some leniency towards him".

Karnataka Congress legislator N.A. Haris' son and expelled state Youth Congress leader Mohammed Nalapad surrendered a day after he was booked on Sunday in an assault case, police said on Monday.

Former CM and state BJP president BS Yeddyurappa tweeted, "I am appalled at & strongly condemn the ghastly attack by MLA NA Harris son on innocent Vidwath".

The Congress has expelled him for six years. "But, when I found him, I asked him to surrender as a law-abiding member of the House", he said. The allegations have caused a major embarrassment to the Congress government as the state goes to polls in April-May.

The February 17 assault has become a major political issue ahead of the Karnataka assembly elections.

On his part, Home Minister R. Ramalinga Reddy visited the hospital and assured his family of arresting Mohammed Nalpad at the earliest. A few mediapersons were allegedly attacked by some persons at the Cubbon Park police station where Nalapad surrendered.

Media reports quoted Vidwath's family sources as saying that the police are behind this counter FIR to force the victim to compromise. According to Vidvat's friends who were with him at the café, Mohammed and his gang followed and assaulted them with bottles when they were trying to take Vidvat to Mallya Hospital after the brawl. He is also the executive director of the Nalapad Group of Companies.
