GM Sean Burke urging Team Canada to make most of Games

US Olympics Women's Hockey Team: See The Stars Putting The Competition On Ice

The Winter Games get underway swiftly and each game counts just as much as the next.

He has lived in Canada for 12 years and is from Seoul, South Korea's capital city. The team's senior players were swift and precise, sharing a clearly stated message and keeping players in the national team pool and development system on it. (Fun fact turned up in said search: Goloubef's great uncle is Dick Duff, the hall-of-famer who was named the 28th greatest Maple Leaf in franchise history by a panel of experts in 2016).

Team USA is almost 45 percent female, putting it slightly above the average for all countries competing in Pyeongchang. "The Olympics is the height of amateur athletics and pro athletics in the past but now it's the amateur".

Japan will be competing in its second straight Olympic women's hockey tournament after finishing seventh in Sochi. They skated Saturday at Guangneng Hockey Arena, focusing again on their breakouts, transitions and puck movement, with a light-hearted shootout at the end in which the teams had to do five push-ups each if their player didn't score.

Three decades later, Jordan Greenway is part of the 0.008 percent of current college players who identify as African American.

"I didn't really expect myself to be able to accomplish a goal of playing in the Olympics this early", Greenway told Sporting News.

JD - who has been a big influence on Greenway's life - grew up to be a powerhouse on the ice like his brother.

After college, Roe played for the Adirondack Phantoms in the American Hockey League, which serves as the primary developmental league for the NHL.

In reality, USA Hockey has of course had its collective eye on Greenway for some time. We have to thank the National Hockey League for moving franchises into Phoenix, and San Jose, and more in southern California, Dallas - that's helped open the game up to more parts of our country and have players from everywhere.

"I've been able to accomplish a lot of good things and just allowing a lot of African-American kids who are younger than me who see kind of what I'm doing, I hope that can be an inspiration for them".

"It's really sad, but I don't know what to say". "It's something you want to do, but it doesn't always go the way you want". "Hopefully these kids go out, try something different, play hockey, and hopefully I see a lot more playing in the near future".

His mother says it's surreal. "That raw emotion of coming so close and having that lead slip through your fingers in the final minute, to then go into overtime and lose the game that way.it was just gut-wrenching".

"When you walk into an ice rink in Southern California, the population or the clientele is different in those rinks than maybe they are in some of our northern rinks, or traditional hockey markets". It didn't work out the way I wanted, but that doesn't mean it has to ruin the whole experience.

That afternoon, was a nervous wreck as he eagerly waited to find out if he had made the U.S. Olympic hockey team. "But it's a deserving honor".

The search for talent to represent Canada at the first Olympics without NHLers since 1994 stretched over five tournaments from August to December, with a number of European-based players rotating in and out. "Whatever happens, happens. But we're going to go in there planning to succeed and planning for the best".

"We're not going in there with an idea to participate in the Olympics; we want to come home with a medal and that's the standard of USA Hockey". When you're an athlete you know it but you don't reflect much on it. "The talk that we have amongst each other is not for show or anything, we genuinely support each other", he said.

In a tournament that is more hard than past Olympics to pre-scout, since the NHL's absence means players have been pulled from leagues all over Europe and North America, the three Canadian goaltenders - Scrivens, Justin Peters and Kevin Poulin - are drawing on each other's collective experience to form a picture of what they'll be up against.

"We are very fortunate that this team is full of leaders, and I think that reflects very well on the type of people that hockey produces", head coach Willie Desjardins said in a press release.
