United Nations pleads for one-month Syria aid truce

According to the statement Syrian air defense intercepted the missiles and destroyed most of them

The Secretary noted last month in Paris that Russian Federation ultimately bears responsibility for the victims in East Ghouta and countless other Syrians targeted with chemical weapons since Russian Federation became involved in Syria.

Civilians had been bracing for more raids as the regime appeared intent on ratcheting up the pressure on Eastern Ghouta, a rebel pocket on the capital's doorstep.

"This was the highest civilian toll in Syria in almost nine months, and one of the bloodiest days for Eastern Ghouta in several years", Abdel Rahman told AFP. Ragıp Soylu, Washington correspondent for Turkey's Daily Sabah outlet, said on Twitter shortly after the news broke that local sources were claiming no chemical attack had occurred, but that the FSA fighters had been exposed to some form of smoke from another source. "I don't know what the point is", he said.

In a statement Paulo Pinheiro said the spiralling violence in Syria had made "a mockery of the so-called "de-escalation zones" - an agreement past year between Russia, Iran, and Turkey to stabilise the lines of conflict and open corridors for urgently needed humanitarian relief. He labelled the government siege and indiscriminate shelling of eastern Ghouta "international crimes".

The U.N. mission in Damascus warned Tuesday of "dire consequences" of the humanitarian crises in Syria, highlighting seven areas in need of urgent aid. The ongoing fighting and deliberate obstructions by forces were preventing aid organizations from reaching civilians, it said.

"If access was granted, three convoys could be dispatched each week, reaching over 700,000 people in these areas in two months", the United Nations said.

The bombs reportedly fell a day after anti-Assad rebels, some associated with jihadist groups, shot down a Russian military aircraft over the skies of Saraqeb, Idlib province.

"The United States should understand and meet our concerns", Cavusoglu said.

Turkish Armed Forces on Wednesday dismissed the "disinformation campaigns" against the recently launched Operation Olive Branch in Syria's northwestern region of Afrin.

"We don't have a shelter in the neighborhood", said Samira, adding that she could hear the sound of strikes on her neighborhood.

The military reassured that only terror targets and their shelters, positions, weapons, and equipment were being destroyed and the "utmost care and sensitivity" were being shown to not harm civilians and the environment.

Airwars, an independent group that monitors civilian casualties caused by airstrikes, says between 77 and 100 civilians have been killed so far in the Afrin operation - 14 to 22 by YPG fire in Syria and Turkey, and 63 to 79 by Turkey in the Afrin countryside. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights put Tuesday's death toll at 70 in what it said was the highest it had recorded since December. Roman Filipov. The ministry said he ejected himself from his jet, exchanged gunfire with the militants then blew himself up with a hand grenade when they closed in on him.

A Turkish military offensive to drive Syrian Kurdish militia out of the Syrian enclave of Afrin has deepened tensions between the two countries.
