The Co-operators expands mental-health benefits to $5000 a year

Let's talk about mental health

Today is Time to Talk Day - a day where people across the country are encouraged to have conversations about mental health.

"What's hard is people don't make the time for their mental health".

The advertising campaign was the victor of the Channel 4 Annual Diversity in Advertising Award, and was designed by Lloyds Bank and its creative agency adam&eveDDB.

Beth Ali, executive director of athletics and physical activity, says university can be a time of many pressures and challenges in the lives of students, so it's important that they are aware of the support systems in place. "Sefton Council's staff will be embracing this day by having a cup of tea and most importantly, helping to get people talking about their mental health".

Mental disorders are commonly used as adjectives in a fond, but self-deprecating, manner by individuals with no clinical mental health training. Providing Canadians with care, access and research into mental illness is the goal, and when high-profile individuals like athletes and entertainers discuss their own experiences in dealing with mental health, only good things can happen. "It is important to let people know that it's okay to talk about mental health, anytime and anyplace, and this campaign is a great way to promote that".

People can then hide them to be found in public spaces such as parks, or take photos and share them on social media with links to help and advice. We need to make people feel more comfortable in talking about mental health, whether it's in the workplace, at home, or with friends.

Money will also be donated if anyone uses #BellLetsTalk in a Tweet and Instagram post, views the Bell Let's Talk Day video at Facebook.com/BellLetsTalk, or uses the Bell Let's Talk Snapchat geofilter.

Babcock also spoke to the personal impact mental health problems have had on people in his life.

She said there are five main pillars to removing the stigmas that exist and bringing down the barriers those experiencing mental illness face.

"I apparently had a psychotic episode and I was shifting through hypomania and depressive episodes throughout the day", Sarah said.

Shiraz said: "We're delighted with the grant, which will provide the funds for our well-being café for families to enjoy when they visit their children for our Parents in School afternoons at the end of each term".

It seems like maybe the conversation is getting a little bit louder.

Talking about mental health is absolutely critical to recovery - the importance of being able to talk and be listened to without shame and the fear of being judged can not be underestimated. "Start that conversation and ask them if they are okay". "You can not have this illness take control of you like it has been.' And I asked him, 'When is that going to happen?'" Sarah said.
