Mike Fisher's Return to the National Hockey League

Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Michal Kempny knocks the puck away from Nashville Predators left wing Scott Hartnell during the first period at Bridgestone Arena

Nashville Predators center Mike Fisher (12) and Anaheim Ducks center Ryan Getzlaf (15) take a faceoff during the first period of the National Hockey League game between the Nashville Predators and the Anaheim Ducks, held on November 12, 2016, at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee.

According to the Predators' official site, Fisher is aiming to sign a contract before the February 26 trade deadline, though the movie is "virtually unprecedented - only a handful of NHLers have stepped out of retirement and back onto the ice to give it one more try".

Fisher hit the ice at Bridgestone Arena on Wednesday morning - the "first step", according to the Predators, in getting him back on the team.

Shocking as it may be that Fisher has chose to return, though, that he'll enter the Predators' lineup again more than six months after he officially announced his 1,000-plus game career was over is only one aspect of his comeback. "I had the blessing of the family, so felt good about that", he explained.

"Everyone wants to win in this game, no one probably more than me", Fisher told the Tennessean then. "It's going to be some work, but I'm ready for it". With Fisher back in the mix, the Predators center depth is better than its ever been. Fisher announced his retirement back in August, but apparently the Predators got in contact with him in recent weeks and things went from there.

"Bear with me, I'm still a little out of breath from the skate this morning", Fisher joked. They weren't struggling without Fisher, but he undoubtedly makes the team that much better. Coach Peter Laviolette had discussions with Fisher, and a meeting with Josi clinched the deal. He has 23 goals and 28 assists in 134 career playoff games. Poile said Wednesday the team would not make any changes to their leadership group once Fisher returns. After averaging over 4 goals a game for a large portion of the opening months, they have scored 3 or less in 14 of their last 18 games.

"A thank you here isn't enough to say goodbye with, but all those memories, like the moments in the locker room before Game 6, cherishing those is what I hope will keep me, this team and the city intertwined forever".
