John Wall out 6-8 weeks with knee injury

Wizards guard John Wall is expected to miss six weeks

With Wall sidelined, the Wizards are exceptionally thin at point guard. While he is out of action, Bradley Beal will get a big boost in usage, while Tomas Satoransky and Tim Frazier will both get more playing time too. After sorely lacking backcourt depth the year prior, this Wizards roster was constructed to withstand minor injuries to either of their All-Star guards. He will miss six weeks and the NBA All-Star Game.

The procedure will be performed by Dr. Parker at the Cleveland Clinic Marymount. Parker also performed two knee surgeries on Wall in May 2016, according to ESPN.

And right now, the knee is sore. (He was voted in as a starter in 2015.) In his absence, the National Basketball Association, which decides all injury replacement matters, will likely elevate either Ben Simmons or Kemba Walker into his spot.

The procedure will force Wall to finally and sufficiently rest his injured knee, which he has played through since the 10th game of the season. The 27-year-old point guard is averaging just 19.4 points, 9.3 assists, and 1.3 steals per game with a 51.1 percent True Shooting Percentage, all numbers that have fallen from his career year last season.

If Wall misses exactly six weeks, he could return on March 13 in a home game against the Minnesota Timberwolves. With the Wizards holding a 4.5-game edge over Griffin and the ninth seed Pistons at this juncture, Washington could feasibly be in position to reach the postseason for the fourth time in five seasons.

The Wizards have been a frustrating team this season because of their inconsistency, but when healthy and at their best they remain a threat in the Eastern Conference.
