This is why Lorde will not be making it to the Grammy's

Variety reports that unlike her male fellow nominees, Lorde wasn't offered a solo performance spot at the awards show, with the Grammys instead proposing that she sing "American Girl" in a group Tom Petty tribute-probably not an especially enticing offer for the New Zealander pop star.

Variety reports that the reason behind Lorde's absence is because she declined a performance spot on the ceremony. Why?

Despite the blatant snubbery on behalf of the Grammys, Lorde scooped up a pretty hefty showing on this year's Hottest 100, with 2017's smash "Green Light" charting at number 6, whilst multiple other Melodrama hits featured in varied throughout the historic countdown. They would only let her perform as part of a planned Tom Petty tribute. She also won't be making an appearance on the red carpet, according to TMZ. If this is the case, she would have also been the only AOTY candidate not performing her own music.

Lorde's mother Sonja Yelich fanned the flames last week when she tweeted a photo of a New York Times article stating that of all the artists nominated for Grammys in the past six years, only nine flawless were women.

She's the only Album of the Year nominee to be left out, and the only woman on the list. Kendrick Lamar, Bruno Mars and Childish Gambino accepted the offer, but Jay-Z turned it down.

The 21-year-old singer will not sing on the show and is considering not even attending, even though she was in New York City on Grammy weekend, TMZ reported.
