Apple executives offers choice to save battery life, doesn't recommend it

Apple has previously said turning off the performance throttling could tax your battery and make your phone shut down unexpectedly.

It also will give them the option to turn off the throttling feature the company instituted previous year to prevent older devices from shutting down when batteries became too weak.

While there isn't a specific timetable for when the new features will be released, Cook said they will be available for testing in a developer release of iOS next month, before going public sometime after that.

Apple's Tim Cook apart from confirming in an interview with ABC News that the company intends to move foreign money back to the USA, he finally addressed the iPhone "batterygate" scandal stating that a new system update will come out in February, that will help users to stop their iPhones from slowing down.

Cook says the update will also give notifications to users before it starts throttling phone performance due to weak battery health.

However, the Apple CEO advised users not to do so, warning that it could result in unexpected restarts of their smartphones.

The issue struck a nerve on social media, where many voiced a theory that Apple intentionally slows down older phones to encourage customers to buy new ones. For those with long message threads spanning months/years, this would be kind of a pity to delete them all, but like we said this is the only fix at the moment.

Cook seemingly addressed the issue in his ABC News interview, stressing the company's apologetic tone. However, the dozens of lawsuits against the company were not dropped and Apple continue to receive public criticism.

For those who choose to disable the performance throttling, Cook was quick to mention that it's not something Apple recommends, as old, degraded batteries can cause the phone to suddenly shutdown.

More importantly, Cook revealed that, following a future update, the feature can be disabled. It is likely that the debut of the option to turn off the controversial power management feature won't be far behind, but it typically takes anywhere from weeks to a few months before Apple pushes a software update out of beta and to all users.
