Corbynistas Tighten Their Grip on UK Labour Party

House in order? Chris Williamson has failed to declare his second home in Derby which he bought with his partner and is believed to rent out

Jeremy Corbyn sparked fresh speculation about backing for a fresh Brexit referendum today.

After the results were announced at midday, Izzard tweeted his congratulations to the successful candidates and said: 'I look forward to working with you to get a Labour government'.

Close ally Emily Thornberry also suggested the party would shift its position if public opinion turned dramatically against leaving the bloc.

The poll, which focused on the three main United Kingdom parties, also found that 36 per cent of the public believe the Conservatives' stance on Brexit is clear, while 46 per cent believe their position is not very clear or not clear at all.

Another MP told The Times that changing the rules could cause Mr Corbyn more problems.

But some in the pro-EU campaign, like the Liberal Democrats and former Labour Prime Minister Tony Blair, want another referendum before the United Kingdom leaves the European Union, which is due to happen in March 2019.

"With a former adviser to John McDonnell now demanding mandatory reselections of all Labour candidates, it is more important than ever that Jeremy Corbyn condemns the abuse and intimidation in his Party".

He also said he had no problem with moderate MPs such as Stella Creasey and Stephen Kinnock continuing in their jobs, despite their opposition to Corbyn in the past.

"But, at the moment, and as things now stand, we proceed in good faith, we do as we are instructed and we are leaving the European Union".

'Despite not being elected, I'll continue to do all I can to campaign for an open and welcoming Labour Party and to campaign with fellow Labour activists across the country to help Labour win the next election and put Jeremy Corbyn in Downing Street.

"Every step of the way Labour are trying to frustrate the Brexit process rather than make a success of it", he said.

'Labour just can't be trusted to deliver on leaving the European Union'.

"We have got the vote coming up this week on the EU (Withdrawal) Bill".

Mr Corbyn expressed concern about some parts of the single market set-up.

"No. I think there are many important relationships".

Mr Corbyn said Labour would vote against landmark Brexit legislation which returns to the Commons in the next few days unless its demands were met in areas such as workers rights.

Other NEC members include Mr Corbyn, his deputy Tom Watson - who in 2015 dismissed Momentum as "a bit of a rabble, an irrelevance" - along with six other MPs, and representatives from trade unions, councils, socialist societies, MEPs, Young Labour and Scottish and Welsh Labour.
