The Illinois Department of Health is sending out a warning to anyone that was in Chicago O'Hare Airport on Wednesday, January 10.

According to WGNTV, the passenger was in Terminal 1 and 5 during the day.

Health officials say the highest concern is for people who have not been vaccinated and were at the airport on January 10 during that window of time.

SPRINGFIELD - On January 10, 2018, a passenger on an global flight with a confirmed case of measles arrived in Terminal 5 at Chicago O'Hare worldwide Airport and departed on a domestic flight from Terminal 1.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention contacted those who sat next to the passenger on the flight. Measles is highly contagious. "So, certainly the people who were on the plane with this individual are at risk of getting the infection, but so are the other people who may have shared the same space with this person during this six-hour period that they were at O'Hare". If infected, symptoms could develop as late as January 23. It can cause serious complications such as pneumonia and encephalitis (swelling of the brain), according to the statement.

"Two doses of measles vaccine are about 97 percent effective in preventing measles", said Chief Medical Officer Dr. Jennifer Layden with the public health department. Possible symptoms include rash, high fever, cough, runny nose and red, watery eyes.

If you have the MMR vaccine, you should be protected.

The agency added that the "majority of people who get the measles were unvaccinated".
