Wahlberg Earned 1500 Times More Than Williams For Doing The Same Work

Mark Wahlberg and Michelle Williams

The film made the headlines a year ago when Scott chose to reshoot Kevin Spacey's scenes following allegations of sexual harassment against the actor.

USA Today reported that Wahlberg's team negotiated a hefty deal when sudden reshoots had to be conducted for the film following the sacking of Kevin Spacey.

According to the outlet, his team negotiated the reshoot fee. Ironically, both Michelle and Mark are represented by officials from the same talent agency, William Morris Endeavor.

In December, Scott told USA Today that he was able to keep costs down for the re-shoot because "everyone did it for nothing".

Williams "has been in the industry for 20 (years)", actress Jessica Chastain tweeted. Portman, for example, said she was paid three times less than her male co-star Ashton Kutcher for the 2011 movie "No Strings Attached". The Post, citing sources close to the negotiations, reported then that Wahlberg was paid at least $2 million for approximately 10 days of work.

The report flies in the face of Williams' work in the Time's Up campaign, an effort led by female stars to address gender discrimination in Hollywood and other industries. But new details coming out also show that something else typical was in play: The idea that Williams - as women in workplaces sometimes do - was first thinking collaboratively about saving a project she believed in.

Williams and Wahlberg re-shot scenes for "All the Money in the World" after Kevin Spacey was axed from the movie following allegations of sexual misconduct.

Because of the circumstances, Williams quickly agreed to return. They also said he wouldn't be part of the reshoots unless he got $1.5 million. "And I'll give you my Thanksgiving break, if that would help.' And they, to their credit, they only took my Thanksgiving break", Williams said. He asked his primary agent, Doug Lucterhand, to push for more money.

After much digging, it appears that Williams, as well as many other people who worked on the film, took a massive pay cut as a beacon of gratitude for all the work the shots would take under the circumstances.

What's alarming and preposterous about this revelation is that Williams is a markedly more gifted and critically recognized film presence than Wahlberg, who hasn't even given a noteworthy acting performance in his career.

After Wahlberg's representatives told the film's financiers that he "never" works for free, they made it clear he wouldn't do any of the reshoots unless he got what he was asking for. Nonetheless in these #MeToo times, this an embarrassing situation for Imperative Entertainment to be in, as well as WME as there's been a great call for gender equality in Hollywood.
