Circuit City to make comeback online next month

Circuit City

Electronics retailer Circuit City is plotting a comeback, one decade after it declared bankruptcy and ceased operations.

Eventually, the revitalized company plans to open showroom-style stores as part of its brick-and-mortar retail strategy.

At the CES event, Circuit City is expected to announce its official launch concentrated on the retail verticals of e-commerce, mobile, technology, omni-channel commerce. The site will use features while search-by-photo for product listings and real-time tech support to boost customer experience.

The company has also enlisted IBM Watson as a personal shopping assistant on the website, according to a news release. "After evaluating other options Circuit City selected IBM because of its aligned vision with AI and how this technology can ultimately transform how clients shop for electronics".

The relaunch will begin February 15, reports consumer electronics magazine Twice, who attended the press briefing at the Consumer Electronics Show.

Down the line, Circuit City plans to gear up towards its own showrooms, according to consumer electronics website Twice. The last Circuit City store closed its doors in March 2009. The company will relaunch online next month, while its physical presence in the form of stores is coming later.

This time around, Shmoel says the company is also planning to open retail kiosks and stores-within-stores.
