Trump on prospect of meeting with Mueller: 'It seems unlikely'

Donald Trump

Echoing his Wednesday morning tweet, Trump decried what he is calling Robert Mueller's "witch hunt", also known as the investigation into Russian interference in the US election and any possible collusion between Trump, the Trump team, and and Russia.

Trump denied any collusion on his campaign's part but instead accused Democrats of colluding with Russian Federation. "There was no collusion, so we'll see what happens".

Asked if he would give an interview to Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who is investigating this case, the President was non-committal.

This is a real exchange that happened between President Donald Trump and Fox News' chief White House correspondent John Roberts in a press conference with the Norwegian prime minister on Wednesday afternoon.

Mr Robert Mueller is said to be preparing to interview the President as part of his probe into the Trump campaign's possible ties to Russian Federation.

Sources familiar with the matter previously told NBC News that Trump's legal team was preparing for the possibility off an interview with Mueller's team, including written responses to questions in lieu of a formal sit-down. "[Russia President Vladimir] Putin can't love that", Trump said.

The remarks mark a turning point from Trump's statement last June, when he said that he would be "100%" willing to testify under oath about his conversations with Comey.

The Department of Justice, headed by Attorney General Jeff Sessions, reopened the investigation on January 4.

As has become routine, Trump fervently denied Wednesday that any collusion took place and described such a suggestion as "a phony cloud" that has hung "over this administration and our government".

"It's a Democrat hoax that was brought up as an excuse for losing an election that, frankly, the Democrats should have won because they have such a tremendous advantage in the Electoral College", he said. But it has been determined that there is no collusion and by virtually everybody.

The Point: Trump is obsessed and irritated by the ongoing Russian Federation investigations and the questions he continues to get about them.

Mueller indicted former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort and another campaign aide, Rick Gates, in October.

When Trump was again asked for a specific answer, he said, "When nobody has found any collusion at any level, it seems unlikely you'd even have an interview".
