Roseanne Claims She'd Be A 'Better President Than Oprah'

In the new episodes, the titular Roseanne, played by Barr, is now a grandmother who voted for Trump and at times clashes with family members and friends with opposing views, the show's cast and producers said at a Television Critics Association event. The show feels reinvigorated by the political climate in a way that, say, the Will & Grace reboot just doesn't.

Barr continued defending President Trump, but said he has made moves that she disagrees with.

"I've always attempted to portray a realistic portrait of the American people and of working class people".

Roseanne better be careful, in this political climate, one serious controversy could get the reboot pulled from programming!

"There is no agenda on anybody's part but to get honest feelings out there within a family that's relateable", executive producer Bruce Helford said. The entire cast joined her, but almost all of the questions were directed at Barr, who discussed her personal politics and why she'd make a better president than Oprah.

"I said it, and I'll say again, my show has always been ..."

"My children took my Twitter password away from me, which is kind of disturbing because so much is going on this week", the grandmother of six said.

"We had a lot of discussions in the very beginning about all of our beliefs, about all the things we feel and issue by issue, you know, things we were going to decide what to deal with on the show", Helford said.

The entire cast of Roseanne, including John Goodman, Sara Gilbert, and Laurie Metcalf, were reportedly at the TCA panel this past week, which took place in California to promote the returning series.

She deferred the questions at first, but finally responded by saying that though she supports the president, "I'm not a Trump apologist". Cummings felt that desire for jobs would explain Roseanne Conner voting for Trump, even if she didn't agree with him on everything.

Most obviously, Barr herself voted for Trump. "To me (the show) was a great opportunity to have a family that can be divided by politics and still be united by love, and that's a great thing for this country right now".

Asked about her own support for Trump, Barr said: "I think it was time for us as a country to shake things up and, you know, try something different". Of course, I love Oprah like everybody else. That included politicians-as demonstrated in Season 4's "Aliens", when Roseanne meets a state representative, Mike Summers, who is promoting a plan that gives tax breaks to corporations setting up shop in her hometown of Lanford, Illinois.
