John Dickerson named new co-host of 'CBS This Morning'

CBS Aims to Boost Video-Streaming News Hub CBSN in 2018

CBS News named "Face the Nation" host John Dickerson as the new co-anchor of its "CBS This Morning", placing the Washington anchor in a role that was previously filled by Charlie Rose.

Rose was sacked by CBS and other employers in November after the Washington Post reported on a series of harassment allegations in Rose's past.

The announcement, from CBS News president David Rhodes on Tuesday, comes more than a month after Rose was sacked from the network amid allegations of sexual misconduct.

Mr. Dickerson - whose mother, Nancy Dickerson, became in 1960 the first female correspondent at CBS News - plans to move to NY and leave "Face the Nation", which he joined in 2015.

According to a release from CBS, Dickerson will join Gayle King and Norah O'Donnell on CBS This Morning on Wednesday.

Shortly after the report, Rose apologized for his behavior in a statement. His mother was Nancy Dickerson, CBS' News' first female correspondent and an associate producer on the first broadcast of "Face the Nation" in 1954. "He's the flawless complement to Gayle and Norah and will help us continue the momentum "CBS This Morning" achieved over the last six years". Will the addition of Dickerson cause new viewers to sample the show and help grow the overall audience?

It was announced Tuesday by David Rhodes, president of CBS News.

Rhodes said in his memo that he'll be in Washington later this week to begin the process of finding Dickerson's replacement there.

John Dickerson with his new "CBS This Morning" co-hosts, Gayle King, left, and Norah O'Donnell. "CBS This Morning" is in its closest competitive position with "Today" in at least three decades and in almost two decades.

NBC is also in a period of change.

The appointment comes a week after NBC's announcement that Hoda Kotb has replaced Matt Lauer on the competing "Today" show - another job that opened because of a firing due to sexual misconduct charges.
