Lawsuit Alleges Google Managers Booed White Men at Company Meetings

Google CEO Sundar Pichai condemned parts of Damore's post that he said perpetuated stereotypes about women.

Many companies in the tech world including Facebook, Tesla, Uber and Google have come under fire for discrimination and sexual harassment.

James Damore, the Google senior software engineer fired over his controversial 3,300 word essay on diversity, filed a lawsuit against his former employer on Monday.

On Monday, James Damore, the Google employee who was sacked for a memo in which he suggested that women were not biologically capable of working in the tech industry, filed suit against Google for discriminating against politically conservative white men.

The engineer who was sacked by Google after he criticized its diversity policies claims in a lawsuit that he and others at the internet giant were harassed over their conservative political views.

The case is Damore v. Google LLC, 18-cv-321529, Superior Court of California, Santa Clara County (San Jose).

"Google employs illegal hiring quotas to fill its desired percentages of women and favored minority candidates, and openly shames managers of business units who fail to meet their quotas - in the process, openly denigrating male and Caucasian employees as less favored than others."

In a lengthy memo that went viral in August, Damore had argued against Google's "echo chamber" of liberal ideas. They are seeking monetary, non-monetary and punitive damages.

The debate comes as Google is fighting claims by the U.S. Department of Labor that it systemically discriminates against women. It alleges that both Damore and Gudeman were "ostracized, belittled, and punished for their heterodox political views, and for the added sin of their birth circumstances of being Caucasians and/or males".

Some legal experts have said Damore faces an uphill battle suing Google.

The exhibits in Damore's suit include several emails sent to him by other Google employees.

The suit claims employees were awarded peer bonuses for arguing against Damore: "In one example of this, an employee gave a Peer Bonus to another employee, and stated that the bonus was for 'speaking up for googley values and promoting [diversity and inclusion] in the wretched hive of scum and villainy that is [Damore's Memo].' The Google Recognition Team reviewed this justification, considered it appropriate, and allowed the bonus to proceed". These messages refer to him as "repulsive, intellectually dishonest, a misogynist and a bad person". Damore's suit was also widely shared on the conservative social network Gab.
