Google announces Google Pay to replace Android Pay and Google Wallet

Bringing it all together with Google Pay - Google Blog

Google has announced that it is merging its Android Pay and Google Wallet into a new service called Google Pay. In the announcement from Pali Bhat, VP of Product Management, Payments for Google, he notes that the company has been working to make purchasing experiences "simpler, safer, and more consistent".

If you've ever paid for groceries with Android Pay, used Chrome to automatically fill in your payment info, or purchased an app on Google Play, then you've already experienced some of the ways Google helps you pay for things online and in stores. Google has announced that "Google Pay" will soon be everywhere.

The move mends a deliberate split in Google's branding - its Android Pay mobile wallet and its Google Wallet P-to-P service - under a single brand that also encompasses in-app payments, Google said in a Monday blog post.

There's a new name for all of Google's mobile payment platforms, and it's one the company probably should have settled on a while ago. Those include Airbnb, Dice, Fandango, HungryHouse and Instacart. Over the past couple of years this payment service reached the UK, Singapore, Hong Kong, Poland, Russia and Canada among many other countries.

The launch of Google Pay is an attempt to create some brand cohesion, but there's no clarity on how long that might take, he said. Through Google Pay, it is possible to send and receive money from/to your friends/colleagues/family apart from shopping payments. Now, in an effort to bring them under one roof, the search giant is rolling out Google Pay, a unified brand for its online and real-world wallets.
