In many ways, the Wolff book will actually help Trump

Michael Wolff

"Well, only because I went to the best colleges, or college", Trump responded. "I think that would qualify as not smart, but genius...and a very stable genius at that!"

Even as the White House reels from revelations from Michael Wolff's explosive bestseller Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House, President Donald Trump's daughter Ivanka and son-in-law Jared Kushner are reportedly "ecstatic" that Steve Bannon is falling into disgrace.

Some stores were sold out the book within a few hours on Friday.

The book claims that for "Steve Mnuchin and Reince Priebus, the president was an 'idiot.' For Gary Cohn, he was 'dumb as shit.' For H.R. McMaster, he was a 'dope.' The list went on".

Wolff says his book has included more than 200 interviews, many of which were taped.

The book - which Newsweek reports has sold out on major retailers' websites - gained buzz after excerpts became available online earlier this week, prompting a storm of tweets from Trump - whose lawyer has threatened to sue the book's publisher.

"My support is also unwavering for the president and his agenda", Mr. Bannon said in the statement.

Bannon, Trump's former White House chief strategist, was critical of the president and his children. Now Sloppy Steve has been dumped like a dog by nearly everyone.

Calling Bannon "Sloppy Steve", Trump said Bannon had "lost his mind" and was "only in it for himself".

"When I have worked with the president and the people around him and Republican senators, he's been active, engaged and effective leader on issues like repealing the individual mandate of Obamacare, cutting taxes for working people, getting immigration under control, leading the fight against ISIS, and turning this economy around", he maintained.

In the letter, Bannon apologizes to the president's son Donald Trump Jr., says that Trump is the only candidate that could have defeated the "Clinton apparatus" and claims that comments made in the book were not aimed at Trump Jr., but rather at Paul Manafort.

The book quickly sold out in shops in the United States capital, with some even lining up at midnight to get their hands on it and others circulating pirated copies.
