Aadhaar Card Address Updation Form: How To Download And Other Details

Natural Tendency Of Govts To 'Desire Perfect Records Of Private Lives', Says Edward Snowden On Aadhaar

The personal information of more than one billion Indians can be bought for just over 6 Euro, due to breakthrough in security of the Aadhaar system, run by local Unique Identification Office. In a statement issued here, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) reiterated that there "has not been any Aadhaar data breach". Further, details are limited to just a particular Aadhaar number punched in.

The Tribune said: "UIDAI has admitted that a facility on their website has been "misused". "UIDAI maintains complete log and traceability of the facility and any misuse can be traced and appropriate action taken".

Now, an investigation by The Tribune has revealed that one of its correspondents "purchased" a service from an anonymous seller on WhatsApp by paying Rs 500 via Paytm.

In a statement issued today, the UIDAI said that UIDAI has given the said search facility for the objective of grievance redressal to the designated personnel and state government officials to help residents only by entering their Aadhaar number/EID.

It has been claimed that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) was leveraging tools of US-based technology provider Cross Match (an Aadhaar vendor) for snooping, and that sensitive data could have been compromised.

Snowden's comments came after journalist Zack Whittaker of the CBS on Thursday shared a Buzzfeed News story on a report published by Chandigarh's The Tribune about a breach of the Aadhaar system.

The newspaper said it paid another Rs 300, for which the "agent" provided a software to facilitate the printing of the Aadhaar card after entering the Aadhaar number of any individual. But they can not access the biometric details. "Except the Director-General and I, no third person in Punjab should have a login access to our official portal", said Sanjay Jindal, Additional Director-General of UIDAI's Regional Centre in a statement.

In a counter argument, the authority said that a mere display of demographic information could not be misused without biometrics. Officials said they are taking the unauthorised use of the grievance mechanism seriously and will work with the police to trace the people involved in making the login ID and password available to a private entity, which will also be investigated. "That is a partial breach of the biometric data too, even if biometric data was not downloaded".
