YouTube star Logan Paul apologizes for posting video of apparent dead body

"He is the male version of a Kardashian on YouTube", according to Polygon culture writer Julia Alexander.

Dozens of research studies suggest that media sensationalizing suicide, showing it extensively and graphically as this vlog did, can put vulnerable individuals at risk. He'll blog about his dog dying or getting dental work done. "Hopefully this latest video woke them up".

The Mount Fuji forest has been known for suicides for decades because people can easily get lost there, and know they won't be found for a long time. The site is famous as a suicide spot. The sign on the right reads: "Your life is a precious gift from your parents".

This particular video however, posted over the New Year's weekend, goes far beyond any of his previous stunts.

He seems aware that the site is sometimes chosen for suicides, but is surprised to come across what appears to be a hanging victim. Like his younger brother Jake Paul, who also vlogs daily on his own YouTube channel, Logan's fans are young - tweens and under, often. Paul tells his viewers that they will be blurring the face of the victim to protect his identity. New York Magazine shares that the video was viewed 6.3 million times in 24 hours before Paul removed it.

"This is a first for me".

On Monday, Paul apologized for the controversial video: "I didn't do it for views".

The statement was widely criticised for having a self-promotional, rather than apologetic tone. Even though I heard he apologised and said it was a coping mechanism you don't do that.

"I should have never posted the video". There were a lot of things I should have done differently, but I didn't.

"Let's start with this-I'm sorry", Logan explained in a followup post to his 3.9 million Twitter followers.

YouTube vlogger Logan Paul reacts after spotting someone who took their own life during a visit to Japan's "suicide forest".

Nate Garner, another online personality, tweeted, "if you really care logan paul [sic] then donate your 2018 youtube [sic] revenue to suicide prevention charities, [the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention] is a great one". "He'll only continue to grow" in popularity, she said.

If you or someone you know could use some support, please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255) or reach out to the Crisis Text Line on 741741.

Paul was also mocked by fellow YouTuber PewDiePie - who himself was heavily criticised after several of his videos were found a year ago to contain anti-Semitic imagery and references to Nazism. Accounts are suspended if they have three strikes within three months. He turned "it's every day bro" into a rap video that, while mocked into the meme stratosphere for its awful lyrics, now has more than 167 million YouTube views.

People have also been calling for more than just the video to be taken down.
