Woman with breast cancer dies 18 hours after hospital wedding

Unfortunately, on December 30, instead of preparing for their wedding at Plantsville Congregational Church, Mosher had to take part in his wife's funeral at the church, at the same time they were supposed to get married.

An American bride battling a severe form of breast cancer died just hours after exchanging vows at a wedding held in the hospital.

The couple exchanged vows in front of family and friends inside St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, Connecticut, on December 22. Confident the diagnosis was something the two would overcome, Mosher followed through with his horse-drawn carriage proposal.

"Her indelible spirit and the gifts she gave this world will surely live on. It is so humbling that someone could love me like that". She also posted photos of her dear friend before cancer on her Instagram account so that people could see Heather before cancer.

"It was a miracle, " Karas told TODAY. The vows were hard for Karas to document, but the bridesmaid took her camera out towards the end, just in time to capture Heather's fleeting joy, according to WFSB. "She just wanted it to be a celebration".

The couple fell in love after meeting at a swing dancing class in 2015. Karas then helped her friend plan the wedding of her dreams right after. The wedding was to take place on 30 December 2017. "That morning, we had a doctor's appointment after finding a lump on her chest", he says. But as fate would have it, Heather passed away merely 18 hours after saying "I do".

Mosher was in such weakened state they initially considered draping the dress over her, but they were able to get it on her for the wedding in the hospital's chapel.

They were supposed to marry on December 30 but her doctors told David that he should move it up.

Dave Mosher noted, "Some of her last words were her vows".

"We were losing her as we were all standing there", said Karas. Some of us get lucky at spending a long, healthy life with the love of our lives, but some learn to make the most of the limited time they have left.

Bridesmaid Christina Karas managed to capture the moment just after Heather and David Mosher said "I do" and the image has since gone viral.

They originally planned to marry on December 30, 2017, but doctors urged them to do it sooner, and they tied the knot at the hospital on the 22nd, with loved ones gathered by Heather's bedside for the ceremony. The coincidence was not intentional, her husband said.

"I knew it was going to be the last time we were going to be together in a love way, it just seemed like the strangest funeral I've ever been to", David Mosher said.
