India opt to field against Sri Lanka in third T20I

The Indian team rejoices after bagging a wicket at the T-20 held at Wankhede Stadium on Sunday

Sri Lanka's team management has since confirmed the presence of a grade one strain - an injury that will not only rule him out of the third T20 against India on Sunday, but will also put him in doubt for the start of the forthcoming Bangladesh tour.

The Indian batsmen were able to chase the target in 19.2 overs with Manish Pandey and Shreyas Iyer being the top-scorers. Just when the match seemed to be going down to the wire, Dinesh Karthik deposited Nuwan Pradeep's last ball full-toss over mid-wicket and India heaved a sigh of relief before the Sri Lankan skipper Thisara Perera bowled the last over.

Iyer (30) was unfortunately run-out at non strikers end but his crucial 42-run stand with Pandey calmed nerves. After few jitters, Dinesh Karthik and MS Dhoni took Rohit Sharma led side home. Two changes are made in Sri Lanka. The new-and-improved Unadkat surfaced for the first time four years ago in the IPL when he bowled himself into one of Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) key weapons with the new and old ball.

His pace colleague though proved very expensive, leaking 45 runs from his four overs with 18 coming in the last over of the innings.

The 18-year-old Sundar maintained a tight line and length, and caught unsafe Kusal Perera (4) off his own bowling after Unadkat got rid of Niroshan Dickwella (1).

Sundar erred slightly in his length, allowing Gunaratne to pull the ball away towards mid-wicket for a much-needed boundary. Hardik Pandya also picked couple of wickets.

In the previous two matches, Sri Lanka were handed a heavy 93-run defeat in the series opener in Cuttack and equalled their longest losing streak (having lost seven-in-a-row) in T20Is with their 88-run loss in Indore.

He struck one straight to Pandya in deep mid-wicket, leaving Sri Lanka struggling at 72 for five in the 12th over.

Thisara Perera: Our plan was to bat first.

Later, Shanaka hit two sixes as Sri Lanka moved to 135/7 in 20 overs.

The second T20 worldwide featuring India at this stadium had also ended in heart-break for the hosts who lost to eventual champions West Indies by seven wickets on March 31, 2016 - in the semi finals of the World T20 Championship.

Bowling: Dananjaya 4-0-27-0, P.Chameera 4-0-22-2, N Perera 3.2-0-22-0, A Fernando 4-0-36-0, M Shanaka 4-0-27-2.
